Author's Note for Beira

Beira sprang into life as a nod to Jadis, the White Witch in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and the person responsible for keeping Narnia in a perpetual winter. She also travels in a sleigh, driven by a short driver, though she strives to entice Kasha with Pashtak Pleasures rather than Turkish Delights. Jadis is descended from Lilith, Adam’s first wife. However, in Gastown I used the name Lilith for Beira’s third child.

As Beira travelled to Gastown, I fleshed out her backstory. She became the younger, more capable sister of the Dux. She rebels against the confinement of Varstad and prefers to be out in the Wildlands to the north. I made her the mother of Aldith and Lilith, and their half siblings, Rafyn, and Justin. She does not crave to rule for herself, but knows one of her children will succeed the Dux.

Beira has an ulterior motive in assisting Kasha, and by extension, Berric. She clings to the old ways and seeks to introduce the flame haired Kasha to the Three Sisters as the ultimate sacrifice.
