Chimeg was striking to look at, with the combination of her father’s green, angular eyes, and her mother’s silk black hair, high cheekbones, and lithe figure. While she inherited her father’s ability to lead and to fight, she also took on her mother’s jealous nature, and her tongue ran rampant, especially where her older brother was concerned. Her father, Jargal, doted on her.

Chimeg was the offspring of Jargal’s first wife, and although she was female, this gave her standing with the elders. However, she overcompensated for her gender by acts of outright cruelty, and she lived in the moment. Despite her mother’s intrigues, she would never be accepted by some of the male-dominated subordinate clans and so she had vowed to crush them at the first opportunity.
